Rio St Andrew Society toasts Robbie Burns

On January 25th Scots around the world toasted the immortal memory of Robbie Burns for his 250th anniversary. In Rio a crowd of people gathered in the Irish Pub to raise their mugs in memory of the great Scottish bard at exactly the same time as Scots around the world, thus attempting to break the world record for the “largest simultaneous toast” and thus enter the Guinness Book of Records The current World Record sits at 462,572 people who gathered in pubs, restaurants, bars and concert venues across the USA.
As you would expect with such an exciting yet significant World Record Attempt, there are certain guidelines required by Guinness World RecordsTM to ensure that the record is valid.

(1) The first requirement is to have two persons willing to act as witnesses (referred to from now on as Toast Masters*) to count the number of people raising a glass. Please note that these two persons cannot be included in the numbers for the Record Attempt which simply means that groups must be three persons or more, hopefully much, much more!

(2) The second necessity is for the words of the Toast to be the exact same and spoken by one person, (we suggest one of the Toast Masters). Again, since the toast is for Burns, the toast will be “The Immortal Memory of Robert Burns.”

(3) The third condition is for the record attempt to be held simultaneously, ie everyone must raise a glass at the exact same time. For World Record purposes, the chosen time was 9 o’clock in the evening in Scotland, ie 2100 hours GMT.
