Having hosted the Panamerican Games in 2007, Rio de Janeiro will now host the Olympic Games in 2016. Much of the infrastructure prepared for the Panam games will be used, and this gave Rio a jump start on the preparations, but there is tons more to do, including building more sports facilities, adding an extension to the Metro system, and cleaning up the whole security structure. This week there have been battles in the favelas between the various drug gangs, and if this continues many will be discouraged from coming to Rio for the games.
